Thermaltake Tower 112 Review

Check out (image popup) what some people are willing to do to make their CPU run cooler. The article is a review for this huge, heavy heatsink, and the author wonders at the end if his computer refusing to boot a couple of days after installing this thing had anything to do with the giant hunk of copper he hung off the side of his motherboard. He can't say for sure, but he knows that when it ran, it ran a few degrees cooler than any other heatsink out there! More »

Call of Cthulhu Interview

Here's a link to an interview with Dennis Cheng, Bethesda's producer for their H.P. Lovecraft-based game, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I know it's an interview with Dennis Cheng because that's the first question they ask him. Whatever happened to interviews telling you about the person before the interview starts? Is that really an interesting interview question to some people? "What is your name and what is your job title?" I'd blame Ultima IV for bringing kids up this way, but none of them ever ask the interviewees about their health, just their name and job. More »

DDR Extreme Includes Bonus EyeToy Extremeness

ddrextreme.jpgWhat wondrous times we live in, when not only we can play a game by stomping, but now we can also simultaneously hook up a camera to the PS2 and catch coconuts, or wave our arms around to clean off a simulated dirty screen, or (as seen above) simply add a new element of rhythm to our stomping. EVO 2K4

It's not the biggest professional gaming competition— there's only $20,000 prize money available across nine tournamentss— but it's got over a thousand entrants anyway, coming to Cal Poly this weekend from all over the world. They're fighting game masters, competing for the top spot in games all the way from grand-daddy Super Street Fighter II Turbo to youngblood Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. More »

A New Doom 3 Trailer, etc.

Doom 3 is going to be at G-Phoria, G4/TechTV's gaming awards show which takes place this weekend. Those of you not in L.A.— and those of you in L.A., but frightened by G-Phoria's guests of honor, Carmen Electra and her melon-headed guitar man Dave Navarro— can instead have a look at this new trailer for Doom 3, which starts out with some scenes from the pre-opening-of-the-hellgate part of the plot and ends with some new action scenes. Knights of the Temple Demo

Hey, kids! Want to play a demo for a game that's not out in America and has no American release date? Well, TDK Mediactive PR folks think you do, because they told everyone about it. And now I'm going to tell you about it, because PR is like herpes— when you get it, you just don't care whether or not you give it to someone else. And taking a daily pill is too much hassle.

labat.jpgMeet Mikael Labat. He's the Art Director for the upcoming Prince of Persia 2. Don't worry, he's a lot better at directing art than he is at directing what goes on above his neck, as you'll see from the great-looking environments in this video. More »

Warfare Incorporated

warfareinc.jpgIt's a real-time strategy game for the Zodiac! According to GameSpot's review, there doesn't appear to be anything that sets this apart gameplay-wise from, say, 90% of RTS games from Command and Conquer onward, but the game apparently does have "a surprising amount of unit variety". Still, it's an actual game for your Zodiac, one that mixes well with the stylus, and you can skirmish against people over Bluetooth. More »

I Prefer to Report on Actual Releases and Here's Why

As I said in a couple of posts back, Kotaku prefers to tell you about stuff you can actually go out and get. I skipped over some news earlier in the week about a demo for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault being released on Friday. These pre-announcements are a waste of time. Especially when the day before the thing they announced earlier in the week was going to happen was scheduled to happen, they instead say that it will be a little while longer. More »

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Delayed

Citing a lack of desire to compete with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, THQ has pushed back the release date of the Chernobyl-themed FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which pisses me off because that means I will have to type S.T.A.L.K.E.R. awkwardly for an even longer amount of time before it's released and then some months later drops out of the news. hominid.jpgKotaku isn't going to be linking to plain jane previews very often unless it's a really slow news day or, as in this case, the game is particularly eye-catching. Most games just don't distinguish themselves in preview, and we prefer to show you things you can actually have now. More »
