Namco Bandai Editor's Day: Get Active with Active Life Outdoor Challenge

It seems like everything is health oriented with the Wii these days. Active Life Outdoor Challenge is what Namco hopes will be the first in a long line of "Active Life" titles. The "active" refers to the jumping, running and other various actions you must perform to get through the game's many mini-games. It is controlled with an proprietary pad that will come bundled with this first game and will be able to be used for the Active Life titles that follow.

I checked out a few of the 12 min-games that will be included in the final release including a Whac-a-Mole game that has you stamping on the pad to whack the moles, a roller skating game, a head to head log rolling game that has you jumping over...well, logs, and a co-op game where two players use balance to steer a runaway mine cart. All in all they games were somewhat interesting, but for me anyway the mini game thing is not quite my cup of tea. I also found the jumping recognition of the pad to be a little slow and you had to really anticipate the jumps. Hopefully this will be worked out before the game releases. Active Life Outdoor Challenge will come bundled with the pad for $49.99 this fall.

IBM Making Virtual Worlds Accessible to the Blind

Computer accessibility has come a long way since the early screen readers for MS-DOS, and it still has a long way to go - but IBM has decided that being blind should be no hindrance to enjoying virtual worlds, and have introduced a project called Accessibility in Virtual Worlds, aimed at researching at developing methods to make places like Second Life (the researchers actually used Active Worlds, which they described as more flexible for their needs) "more hospitable" to the visually impaired. It sounds like an audible version of old-school text-based adventures: More »

My computer crashed, just like the Quake Wars beta site last night. See how I tied in the news?
They showed some GH3 video. And then introduced...SLASH! From Guns & Roses. And HE'S SMOKING! ON STAGE! WHAT??? I wish I were Slash. I bet his computer never crashes. Unlike the Quake Wars beta site.

A shield generator can block artillery fire. Didn't show it. You can be a top scorer without firing a bullet. What can I say? People will love it. I won't. But people will. Now Spiderman, Friend or Foe.
It's a teamwork game, co-op. And a family game.

Ok, we also have Tony Hawk, GHIII and Bee Movie Game on the menu. Wait...now Jamie is back. "Give it up for Robin." Nice job Robin. He said Eversoft was the first name for Viagra. Nice. Brian from Tony Hawk's Proving Ground is up. He's sitting side by side with Jamie. It's a talk show. God help us. Jamie Kennedy has a talk show. Jamie went back to the "neversoft" jokes. People think they are funnier now. Apparently everyone here is going crazy.

So check this: someone famous is showing up. I heard a security guard talking about it. We'll see. Maybe it's Screech! Oh, it's Jamie Kennedy.Seriously.

Active Download Coming to Xbox Live

Who knows, it might be live now. Microsot is listing Active Download as an addition to the Xbox 360 skill set. The post says the service is scheduled to hit yesterday, though I'm fairly certain that's wrong. More »
